Herding Sheep Tuff Tray | Building 9 and 10 | Week 9 Reception Spring Maths

This engaging farm-themed tuff tray supports children in exploring number bonds to 10 through practical, small-world play.
Children herd and place 10 sheep into different fields, investigating how the total can be made using two parts and then extending their thinking by representing 10 using three or more parts.

The activity encourages children to count, compare and explain their reasoning while exploring how numbers can be partitioned in different ways.
Challenge questions and prompts such as “What’s the missing part, Mr Wolfie?” support deeper thinking about the relationship between the whole and its parts.
The resource is fully aligned with White Rose Maths Building 9 and 10 and the EYFS framework.

Herding Sheep tuff tray supports:

  • Block 5 Building 9 and 10
  • Step 8: Bonds to 10 (2 parts)
  • Step 9: Make arrangements of 10
  • Step 10: Bonds to 10 (3 parts)
