Learning about animals that live with people helps KS1 pupils make real-life connections to science. National Pet Month activities for KS1 often focus on recognising different types of pets, understanding basic needs such as food, water and care, and learning how to be responsible animal owners. Using National Pet Month activities for KS1 in the classroom supports discussion, empathy and early scientific understanding through practical, age-appropriate learning linked to familiar experiences.
