Comparing money is a key KS1 maths skill that helps pupils recognise the value of coins and amounts and decide which is more, less or equal. These comparing money KS1 activities support children in Year 1 and Year 2 to compare coins and totals using practical examples, visual representations and simple reasoning. Through structured classroom tasks, pupils develop confidence in ordering amounts, using mathematical language such as more than and less than, and applying their understanding of money to everyday contexts. The comparing money KS1 activities are well suited to whole-class teaching, small group work and independent practice within the primary school maths curriculum.
