Teaching block diagrams in KS1 maths supports pupils in organising and interpreting simple data using clear, visual representations. These block diagram KS1 activities help children collect information, sort it into categories and represent results using one-to-one blocks that make quantities easy to compare. Through practical tasks and questioning, pupils learn to identify totals, compare groups and use key statistical language such as more than, fewer than and most. Block diagram KS1 activities are well suited to Year 1 and Year 2, building early data handling skills in line with National Curriculum expectations.
