Chinese New Year Tricky Word Hunt Tuff Tray Pack

It’s time for the children to go on a Chinese New Year hunt! Can they find all of the tricky words?

Our Lunar New Year themed tuff tray pack contains everything you need to set up a fun and engaging phonics tricky word tuff tray in your classroom, just in time for all your Chinese New Year activities.

The pack has been created using all 5 groups of tricky words.
Simply hide the Chinese coins in your tuff tray – we recommend shredded red paper or rice to hide the coins in. Children then use their Chinese New Year hunt sheets to colour in the tricky words as they find them.

The pack includes:

  • Challenge card
  • A4 teacher mat showing you all the tricky words and the 5 groups they are broken into and for which age group
  • Group 1 tricky words (12 coins – 2 per word)
  • Group 2 tricky words (13 coins – 1 per word)
  • Group 3 tricky words (17 coins – 1 per word)
  • Group 4 tricky words on eggs (17 coins – 1 per word)
  • Group 5 tricky words on eggs (24 coins – 1 per word)
  • 5 A4 tricky word hunt checklist sheets for the children


    • Why not also add:

  • Shredded paper or dyed rice to hide the coins
  • Tweezers for the children to use to pluck the words out (bringing in fine motor control to the activity)
