Early Years The Most Magnificent Moose Story Sequencing

Support early reading comprehension, storytelling and sequencing skills with our The Most Magnificent Moose Story Sequencing Activity, created in partnership with Hachette Children’s Publishing to support the children’s storybook The Most Magnificent Moose by Rachel Bright and Jim Field.

Follow Morris on his journey of self-discovery as children revisit important moments from the story and practise putting events into the correct order.

This printable EYFS literacy resource features four illustrated sequencing cards showing key characters and events from The Most Magnificent Moose, including Morris, the other moose and the beavers.

Children can cut out the picture cards, discuss what is happening in each illustration and arrange them in the correct story order.
Once completed, encourage children to retell the story using their own words, developing their understanding of narrative structure and the language of sequencing.

Ideal for Nursery and Reception, this activity can be used during adult-led literacy sessions, small-group storytelling activities or as part of an independent reading and comprehension area.

EYFS Curriculum Links:

  • Literacy – Comprehension: Retelling familiar stories and demonstrating an understanding of key events.
  • Communication and Language: Using vocabulary to describe events and explain what happens in a story.
  • Understanding of Sequence: Using language such as first, next, then, and finally to organise events.
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development: Discussing how Morris’s feelings change throughout the story.
