This engaging tuff tray activity brings together key mathematical learning from across the year through a problem-solving, small-world context.
Using familiar bug characters from Flo’s birthday Bug Grub, and counting prompts, children solve challenges such as making a total number of eyes, wings or legs, exploring different combinations to reach a given total.

The activity encourages children to create their own number stories, explain their thinking and test different strategies.
It supports deep understanding of part–whole relationships, addition and reasoning, while promoting independence and creativity in mathematical problem solving.
It is fully aligned with White Rose Maths Summer Term Make Connections and the EYFS framework.
