Tony Rex’s Seven Stomps to Success KS1 Story Resource Pack

Bring the positive messages and humour of Tony Rex’s Seven Stomps to Success to life with this engaging collection of KS1 activities, created by Teacher’s Pet in collaboration with Reading Rocks and Picture News as part of the Ready, Set, Read project – designed to encourage reading for pleasure as part of the Go All In / National Literacy Trust initiative.

Inspired by Tony Rex’s Seven Stomps to Success by Alex Latimer, published by Andersen Press, this resource pack encourages children to explore Tony Rex’s memorable advice for tackling challenges, believing in themselves and learning that success doesn’t always mean getting everything right first time.

The accompanying activities build on the book’s Seven Stomps to Success, giving children opportunities to think about the advice Tony shares and relate his ideas to their own experiences in a fun and accessible way.

The pack includes:

  • a KS1 cross-curricular ideas map, providing practical ways to extend the themes and ideas in the book across different areas of learning;
  • a Life Coach tuff tray activity, where children sort helpful and unhelpful advice before choosing different problems and becoming life coaches themselves, writing or drawing their own words of encouragement;
  • a fun activity booklet inspired by Tony’s advice, encouraging children to think about trying new things, looking after themselves, setting personal challenges, making mistakes and taking time to slow down and breathe;
  • a take-home activity, where children identify the friends and family members who make them feel good about themselves.

The activities provide opportunities to develop reading comprehension, speaking and listening, writing, reasoning and creative thinking, alongside particularly strong links to PSHE and personal development.
Children are encouraged to consider resilience, self-belief, positive relationships, looking after themselves and how the advice we give can help others.

Ideal for KS1 classrooms, school libraries, reading groups and reading-for-pleasure initiatives, this pack provides a playful way to continue conversations sparked by Tony Rex while helping children connect the messages in the story with their own lives.
Ready, Set, Read brings brilliant books and playful learning together, helping children build positive, enjoyable experiences around reading.
