Are you looking for quality local history planning and resources? We've got you covered with our Local History project in partnership with Historic England. What’s more, all our resource packs are completely FREE!

Teaching local history can be a daunting prospect, especially if you are not from the area in which you teach.

Through our new Local History scheme, we have worked with Historic England to provide you with everything you will need to confidently carry out engaging local history lessons in your Key Stage two classroom.

We think that children should be proud of where they live and believe that we can achieve this by helping them understand the history of the place that is local to them.

Our Local History resource packs are completely FREE to download and contain a complete local history scheme of work that you can use in your classroom.

Each Local History pack has a wide variety of resources that are organised into an easy-to-follow scheme of work. You will find an overarching enquiry question and then 4 or 5 smaller enquiry questions that form the basis of the lessons.

The packs contain:

- A Teacher Cheat Sheet so, if needed, you can read up on the history of the place you will be teaching about.

- A comprehensive Teaching Overview that outlines the lessons, lists the historical sources used, provides key vocabulary and suggests further extension activities.

- Source-based PowerPoint Presentations that you can use to help relay the key information.

- A variety of activities, many of which are based on a relevant historical source.

- Key vocabulary cards

- A glossary of key vocabulary

- A display pack

- An engaging video

Every question uses historical source information that can be accessed digitally such as photographs, documents or maps. That way, your class will have access to real historical evidence that is relevant to their local area.

Local History by Teacher’s Pet and Historic England provides FREE resource packs through the Teacher’s Pet Local History Hub or on the Historic England website.

Sign up for a FREE Starter Membership, a Classic Membership or an Ultimate Membership and download individual resources or the handy Local History Resource Pack which will give you everything you need in one simple folder.

Please note that due to the large file size of the full Local History Resource Pack, we strongly recommend:

- Checking you have a stable internet connection

- Checking you have enough storage on your device

- Allowing appropriate time for the download to complete.

As you can imagine, providing local history resources for so many areas is a huge undertaking. We are working hard to cover as many areas as possible but you can help us prioritise by letting us know which area you would love to see covered.

Contact us to request your area ask your colleagues to do it too. The more requests we get, the more likely we’ll be able to do it.

Working with Historic England, our focus is naturally on places in England but if you live somewhere else, feel free to let us know what you would like to see. You could also mention us to a historical organisation in your country and we could see if a partnership is possible.
