Talk Like a Pirate Day
A joke to start us off… Why couldn’t the kid see the pirate movie? Because it was rated arrr! That deserves at least a pity laugh. On a more official note, Michael has written a fantastic blog all about Talk Like a Pirate Day! Two friends, John Baur and Mark Summers came up with the idea on 19th September 1995, and after going viral around 2002, became an internationally celebrated day. The day even has a patron saint in Robert Newton, after his numerous portrayals of pirates including Long John Silver and Blackbeard.
Take a read of Michael’s blog today!
It’s time to Fill Your Bookshelf – With Phil!
This weeks book review is all about ‘The Proudest Blue’ by Olympic Medalist Ibtihaj Muhammad.
Phil says –
‘The Proudest Blue is an inspirational story written by American Olympic Medallist, Ibtihaj Muhammad. It tells of the importance and of the pride felt when wearing Hijab for the first time. With beautiful illustrations and imagery, the book conveys the strength and courage of those who wear Hijab in a western world. An important book to be read across the key stages.’
Another fantastic review by Phil. Have you read this book with your class? Got any book suggestions for Phil for future book reviews? Then why not let us know in the comments down below, or get in touch through social media? We’ll listen to all suggestions you have, and you never know, your book could be featured as our next book review!
