The Online Teaching Community Stands Together to Support Schools Facing Closure
The UK and indeed the rest of world is facing a very uncertain and concerning future with regards to the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic.
With large sporting events including the Premiere League and public gatherings already being cancelled/postponed and several UK schools already closing their doors. The official message is that we are to expect this to get worse before it gets better. This means that the majority of UK schools are on standby and are preparing for the possibility of a countrywide closure of all schools.
The daily pressures being faced by teachers are already huge and now teachers are being asked to prepare up to 4 weeks of home learning resources for their students should the worst happen and their school is told to close. This is unfair and a massive additional pressure being placed upon teachers who are already overstretched.
However, there are lot’s of websites (including our own of course) which have stepped up to help teachers during this difficult time. We have created this post to highlight just a few of the fantastic services that are available for teachers.
BrainPop’s animated movies engage via narrative, humor, and characters who speak in a voice kids can relate to, encouraging self-directed learning and further exploration of the world around them.
BrainPop are giving schools affected by closures FREE access to their service which is an incredible gesture! Hit the link below to find out how you can apply for your FREE access…
Classroom Secrets KIDS
The amazing team over at Classroom Secrets have been adding a HUGE amount of new content to their new ‘KIDS’ website. Classroom Secrets KIDS is a completely FREE (during it’s ‘beta phase’) website that offers a large selection of online interactive activities for subjects such as Phonics and Maths. The beauty of this service is that once a teacher has created an account, they can then add their class to the website so that each child can then remotely access the content and use the service! Perfect for remote/distance learning!
Teacher’s Pet (that’s us!)
Today, we have added 4 ‘Home Learning Resource Packs‘ to the website covering EYFS, KS1, Lower KS2 and Upper KS2. These packs contain enough content to support your home learning plan for 2 weeks. We are working on adding additional packs to give you an additional 2 weeks worth of content.
Activities such as these are usually restricted to members with a CLASSIC or ULTIMATE membership – however we are offering these packs completely FREE – simply sign up for a FREE Starter membership and hit download.
On top of these home learning packs we also have a huge catalogue of resources available which could save you bundles of time when creating your home learning materials. We are offering a 15% discount on our ‘ULTIMATE‘ membership package which gives you access to Teacher’s Pet in its entirety for a full 12 months for just £17.
Simply use code ‘HERETOHELP‘ at the checkout.
Grammarsaurus / Spelling League
The team at Grammarsaurus have an amazing website called ‘The Spelling League’ which teachers can subscribe to and ensure that their class does not lapse with their spellings during any closure time. At just £20 for a 12 month ‘class membership‘ giving 32 children the ability to play this amazing game and keep their spellings in check.
Let’s be honest, we all know who Twinkl are so they don’t need any introduction here. The amazing team at Twinkl are offering all users a completely FREE month on their top level membership package. Giving teachers access to ALL of their fantastic content and services including Twinkl GO! Check out their blog post to find out how to utilise this amazingly generous offer.
This is by no means an exhaustive list of the companies that are actively supporting teachers during this difficult time. We hope that the links above help to reduce the burden of that extra workload.
Are there any services you are using that you are finding invaluable at the moment? Let us know in the comments…
But, for now: be happy, be healthy and keep being awesome!
