C.S. Lewis’ Birthday
Beloved children’s author, wartime veteran, member of The Inklings. C.S Lewis lived a very intriguing and varied life and his works have lived on through the decades since his death in 1963.
Being one of the most celebrated children’s authors of all time, we believed it would be fitting to create this blog post in order to help inspire you to introduce your class to C.S Lewis and his works.
Narnia Themed Immersive Environment
TTS have created an amazing looking Narnia themed reading and learning environment. It looks amazing, can be adapted very quickly and easily and will liven up any room that it is placed in.
If you’re looking for some inspiration to help make learning more fun and engaging for kids in their own time, why not try and a splash of creativity to a spare section of the classroom and make a dedicated display area where the children can pin up their favourite pieces of work all to do with the topic of C S Lewis.
Character Costume Contest
A great way to help kids engage with the characters and stories is to hold a class, or even school, wide costume show. Let them dress up and show off their creative side. Send in some of your classes photos and they may be featured on our Topic Calendar.
Making a C.S Lewis Inspired Small World
A very stimulating way of learning is to have the children design and create a living, breathing world inspired by the books that they have been reading. Take a look at some of these examples below, be motivated by what you see and have a go at building your own Small World.
William Moseley reading The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe:
Having a celebrity voice reading out popular books can help children focus and retain more of the story being read and may push them to read more or even listen to audiobooks in their own time.
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe Trailer
For some children, sitting and reading a book and then being told to discuss is not an engaging way of learning as they are prone to forget or misinterpret what they have just read. An alternative way would be to play one of the movie adaptations which may enable them to better understand the context of some of the interactions between characters.
Shadowlands is a drama that stars Anthony Hopkins as C S Lewis. Based on a play written by the author’ son, it goes through the life and love of C S Lewis and his wife Joy Davidman.
We hope that these examples have given you some inspiration. Let us know in the comments below how you helped your school celebrate C.S Lewis’ Birthday (they might be added into the topic calendar).
