Vincent Van Gogh Birthday

Vincent Van Gogh Birthday

Vincent Van Gogh. An artist and an inspiration to many all around the world. His life story is one of unrecognised talent- having sold only one painting whilst alive.

Born 30th March 1853. A classic example of the starving artist struggling for recognition. Yet despite his tragic life, he never gave up in his quest to become a great painter. He is now regarded as one of the great stars of the art world. There is much more to Van Gogh than sunflowers and very much more for the children to learn, than simply making reproductions of his paintings.

Using Van Gogh in Art lessons is a great idea. Do you need a few ideas of where to start? Check out this page I found for Van Gogh lesson ideas.

Who was Vincent Van Gogh?

A short film about Vincent van Gogh, for use as an introduction to lessons about the artist and his work. Suitable for ages 7-10.

Vincent Van Gogh Inspired Display Area

If you’re looking for some inspiration to help make learning more fun and engaging for kids in their own time, why not try and a splash of creativity to a spare section of the classroom and make a dedicated display area where the children can pin up their favourite pieces of work all to do with the topic of Vincent Van Gogh.

Students recreated Van Gogh’s Starry Night & pictures of them “coming out” of their frame.

Van Gogh Art Camp

This photo comes from an art camp where a class spent a week learning about different artists. They each had a go at recreating Van Gogh’ Starry Night.

Another photo from an art camp, this time the kids got the chance to learn how to recreate their version of Van Gogh’ Sunflower.

Their are an absolute plethora of YouTube videos all about teaching kids how to paint like Vincent Van Gogh. I have gone through and picked out a couple that I thought were particularly stand out.
