We continue to follow The Mysterious Egg around the world and into a new week of Wellbeing Wednesday.

This week, we don our Ushanka hats and big winter coats as we travel to Russia where we meet Oleg the Observant Owl.

“Learn how to know yourself and about self-regulation”

Don’t forget, just like our Superhero term of Wellbeing, all of our animations for this term will be totally free, available to view on YouTube and Vimeo.

We don our Ushanka hats and big winter coats as we travel to Russia where we meet Oleg the Observant Owl.

Oleg begins to teach The Mysterious Egg Oleg’s tips for self-regulation and how knowing themselves, their struggles and strengths is the best way to successfully self-regulate.

Find out more by watching our FREE animation below.

E-Book – Available for Early Years/KS1 And KS2

In this week’s E-Book, we meet Oleg the Observant Owl.

Oleg’s E-Book discusses how it is important that we learn how to regulate our emotions.

There are two differentiated E-Books available; one for Early Years & KS1 and the other is written for both lower as well as upper KS2.

Journal and Task Card

This week our amazing journal activity and task card are all about self-regulation and knowing yourself.

Journal Activity – Available for Early Years, KS1, LKS2 & UKS2

Our task card and journal are great together as they are designed to help the children further embed what they have learnt from the animation and digital E-Book.

Task Card Activity – Available for Early Years, KS1, LKS2 & UKS2

Our task card also works as a great introductory resource as it explains this weeks theme of regulating emotions through the use of roleplay scenarios.

Teaching Guide

Teaching Guide – Available for Early Years, KS1, LKS2 & UKS2

Each week our fantastic teacher guides are here to lend a hand when planning out your lessons

Each of these individual teacher guides will include:

  • Vocabulary & Questions
  • The teaching and learning sequence
  • A brief overview
  • Resources needed, both for this week and the following week

Self Regulation Activities

Cookie Monster Practices Self-Regulation

A brilliant video that can be used at the start of a lesson to introduce and explain what self-regulation actually means – and does so by using the ideal character for this topic, The Cookie Monster.

Cookie Monster joins NPR’s Life Kit Parenting Podcast to talk about practising self-control, especially when you have to wait for something you really want… like a plate of delicious chocolate chip cookies.

5 Incredibly Fun GAMES to Teach Self-Regulation | Social Emotional Learning

Teaching kids to have self-regulation is one of the most important character traits we can teach. Experts believe that kids who master self-regulation become: masters of their learning, are more critical thinkers, and make healthier choices; and the benefits are life-long.

Additional Resources

Alongside all of these amazing resources, we also have some brand new, additional resources available which can be used to enhance your teaching even further!

Our stunning looking Display Focus provides you with the resources you need to make your well-being display the best it can be; including a wall display, character passports that are differentiated for EYFS/KS1 & Lower and Upper KS2, all of which relate to that week’s individual theme!

Along with all of these, there are large mindful colouring sheets featuring Oleg and a set of differentiated quotes and statements all about self-regulation.

Perfect for children to unleash their creativity!

We’re so happy with how everyone has responded to this terms Wellbeing resources so far, and we still have more places to go and birds to meet.

Ditch your coat and hat for next week’s blog where we’ll be meeting a Proud member of the ‘Wellbeing Flock’ and his teachings on self-confidence and feeling proud.
